Meet Jannat Vasi: Creating Iconic Spaces
Pushing the boundaries of conventional design, interior designer Jannat Vasi is no stranger to the world of luxury and innovation. With her multi-disciplinary practice based in Mumbai, she has been awarded accolades that recognize her as one of the top design minds globally. Her firm has earned a coveted spot in Forbes’ Top 30 Architects and Designers, as well as a place on Interior Design Magazine USA’s Top Global Interior Designers 2024 list.
Featured in world-renowned publications such as Architectural Digest, Vogue Living, and Elle Decor, Jannat’s work transcends boundaries, blending modern aesthetics with timeless elegance.
Jannat Vasi graduated in Interior Architecture from Raffles Singapore and earned honours in Furniture Design from Pratt Design University, New York. Over the past 10 years, she has built a strong clientele.
With over 14 years of experience, Jannat’s signature approach revolves around creating spaces that balance beauty, functionality, and the human experience. We had the opportunity to sit down with Jannat and discuss her creative process for AsmitA Grand Maison.
What was your vision when choosing the colour palette for the 1BHK sample flat for AsmitA Grand Maison?
The vision behind the colour palette for the 1BHK sample flat was to create a space that feels both timeless and contemporary.
I wanted to blend subtle, neutral tones with soft accents to create a serene, welcoming environment that suits a variety of lifestyles.
By layering different textures and shades of taupe, cream, and soft greys, the space feels larger, more inviting, and incredibly calming. The idea was to craft a balanced backdrop that allows for personalization while still maintaining an understated elegance.
What was your inspiration behind designing the lobby?
The lobby is the first impression of any space, and I wanted it to convey a sense of understated glamour. My inspiration was drawn from luxury brands, where using clean lines, luxurious materials, and ambient lighting creates an immediate sense of arrival.
I used contrasting textures—polished surfaces with soft furnishings—to evoke a sense of balance and sophistication. The goal was to make the lobby both welcoming and awe-inspiring, a place where people feel instantly relaxed but also impressed.
How do you hope residents will feel when they enter a space designed by you at AsmitA Grand Maison?
I envision residents feeling an immediate sense of calm, comfort, and belonging when they step into a space I designed at AsmitA Grand Maison. My goal is to create environments that are not only visually stunning but also functional and liveable.
I want the spaces to resonate with a sense of balance—where every detail feels thoughtfully considered and where residents can see themselves living their best lives. Ultimately, I hope these spaces foster a feeling of pride and joy in coming to their dream home.
What considerations did you keep in mind while designing the common areas and amenities?
When designing the common areas and amenities, it was important to me that they not only look beautiful but also serve the community well.
Functionality is key, especially in spaces that get regular use. I considered how people would move through the spaces and how they would interact with the design.
Comfort, flow, and practicality were essential, but I also wanted the common areas to have that signature luxury feel—using beautiful textures, sophisticated lighting, and carefully curated furniture to create a cohesive, elegant environment that enhances the everyday living experience.
